Petty 45 is a Tom Petty tribute band based in Pittsburgh. Our goal is to carefully honor the legacy of Tom Petty’s music by performing it live with authenticity — bringing the songs to a new generation of fans.
Offering tribute to a songwriter and performer as prolific as Tom Petty is a tricky thing. Hundreds of Tom Petty tribute acts have sprung up worldwide. The Petty 45 project by Radio 45 is our attempt to honor the legacy of Tom Petty in a way that he might approve of. This manifesto is a declaration of our intent, approach and goals when performing the music of Tom Petty.
Petty 45 — The Tom Petty Tribute
Petty 45 — sometimes referred to as Radio Petty and the Chart Toppers — delivers up to a 90-minute set of the most popular Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker’s songs. The show is very popular and is playing some of the best rooms in Pittsburgh — as well as venues, county fairs, and concert halls across Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York.

Who We Are
- We’re seasoned, professional musicians at the top of our game who happen to be huge fans of Tom, Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Stan Lynch, Ron Blair, Steve Farrone and Howie Epstein.
- Inspired by Mike Campbell’s Dirty Knobs appearing in Pittsburgh in 2023 — and the 18 different guitar amps on stage that night — Radio 45 began experimenting with reproducing the sounds and tones of the Heartbreakers’ songs — with great success. Petty 45 was born.
- Our goal is to honor the sounds, tones and songs of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers by reproducing the material authentically during live performances.
- We are one of the most authentic sounding Tom Petty tribute bands on the planet.
- We are licensing and recording songs from the Tom Petty catalog. License fees and royalties from this work is paid to the songwriters by an independent third party.
What We Are Not
- We are not a “Tom Petty experience” act. There was only one Tom Petty. Anything less than the original would be a watered down copy. Once you’ve had a great love, only the real thing will do.
- We do not try to “look like” Tom Petty live — for the same reasons list above. We are Radio 45 — and we look like Radio 45 — but through our Petty 45 persona we’re able to perform Tom’s songs live with seasoned, professional precision.
