Tech Tuesday with Radio 45’s C. Scott Gilbert
Tech Tuesday! Nerd notes for the musically inclined. Or interested. Or not.
It ain’t easy being green.
No, wait. It’s really easy.
Radio 45 spends the bulk of its collective time writing, rehearsing, performing and recording music: creating audio.
That said, video can be an important part of artistic expression in modern music: music videos, live video at shows, social media videos, and behind-the-scenes footage.
Over 100,000 newly created songs are uploaded to streaming services every single day. Adding video to the Radio 45 music experience just might help our music reach more ears. It’s art. And it’s fun. Why not?
Capturing video footage is easier than ever — with regular iPhones being used to shoot footage for TV commercials and even feature films. Each member of Radio 45 carries an iPhone in their pocket — and the band records a ton of video footage.
Editing video footage can be a time suck, so Radio 45 uses green screens to knock out unwanted background distractions at the click of a mouse. The “keying” effect in Apple Final Cut Pro makes replacing green screens a snap and can be used to add all kinds of amazing visual imagery — as shown in our very first music video Feels Like Summer.
The attached before and after photos show the Radio 45 back line with green screen and effects lighting in place — and the resulting video.
Until next time,
Scotto
